"The North Atlantic Tionól is a weekend series of workshops and concerts presented by masters of the uilleann pipes, fiddle and bodhran from Canada, the U.S., and Ireland."


Concerts

June 10 Friday evening concert w/ Paddy Keenan accompanied by Pat Broaders. 7pm - 9pm - Tickets: Adults $20, Students $15, Children under 12 free. To purchase in advance contact Ben Reid 978-895-6148 northatlanticpipers@gmail.com or purchase at the door. Open session to follow.

June 11 Saturday evening concert w/ Open the Door for Three. 7pm - 8:30pm followed by Ceili w/ Elizabeth MacDonald. 8:30pm - 10pm. Ceili music by Blackie O'Connell, Brid Dunne, and Michelle Stewart. June 12 Piper's Chair. Open-mic style performance. A chance for instructors and students to showcase their tunes. Free admission. Open sessio

Registration Information

Check the registration page for a special deal on the 2017 event for returning full time students.

Registration for the tionól entitles you to all classes, workshops, lectures, meals, and a concert ticket. The schedule allows you to take two classes and two workshops over the course of the weekend.

Workshop Information

Kieran O’Hare - Piping in Three Dimensions

Description: How and when to lift the uilleann pipes chanter off the knee, and how to manipulate its tone and dynamics to create specific piping effects (including 'pops', 'barks', and 'swells') tastefully and in tune, and thereby make your playing more colourful, more exciting, and more musical.

Liz Knowles - The Long and Short of Bowing

Description: Using archival recordings and modern recordings of fiddlers as well as demonstration, we will discuss the various ways to articulate both with short and long bows to create and imitate different styles and types of tunes.

Brid Dunne - Slow Airs

Blackie O’Connell - Regulators as a Rhythmic Tool

Paddy Keenan - Reed Making and Advanced Masterclass Piping

Set Dancing Information

If you are interested in learning and partaking in the Set Dancing classes with Elizabeth MacDonald, do NOT submit a registration form for the North Atlantic Tionol. Contact Fred Horne at fredchorne@gmail.com in order to register for Set Dancing classes. Admission to the Saturday concert/ceili will be free for all set dancers. The Friday concert and Sunday Piper’s Chair will be normal admission.

Beginner Whistle Information

Torrin Ryan will be teaching two beginner whistle classes on Saturday and one on Sunday. Cost for one 1-hour class is $20. There is no need to submit a registration form for the whistle class; however, please do contact us in advance to reserve a spot. Feel free to make use of our Paypal payment method on the registration page or Cash or Credit on-site.

Don't play these instruments or any instrument but want to sit in on a class or workshop to observe and listen? Feel free to contact us to ask about our Observer fees.
